Taunton Ladies Chorus at Creech St. Michael

November 28, 2011

Taunton Ladies Chorus were delighted to return to the Over Sixties Club at Creech St. Michael on Wednesday 23rd November and as usual we were made to feel most welcome. We mixed our programme to give the audience an early taste of Christmas which they all seemed to enjoy.

One highlight of the afternoon was the poem recited by Bridget, ‘Chocolate Cake’ by Michael Rosen and considering that it was  supposedly the voice of a thirteen year old boy, her delivery was superlative.  An excellent job Bridget.

We often take a quiz to Creech and that day was no exception the only difference was the prizes – Bridget supplied them they were, not suprisingly, Chocolate Cakes – small ones though.

Karen was able to give us a performance of ‘Barrel House Blues’ on the piano rather than the keyboard and if we had aisles I am sure everyone would have been rocking in them.

Since Wendy could not be present the presentation was done byJackie.

This proved to be a most enjoyable afternoon and the audience, as is their practise, joined us at every opportunity and the final song ‘He’s got the Whole World in His Hands’  proved to be a hit with all.

Taunton Ladies Chorus at Calway

November 24, 2011

We were pleased to return to Calway for another concert and as usual we received a warm welcome from the visitors and residents of the centre.  The Community singing was uplifting and much enjoyed by all.  Karen played a solo and Ann delighted the audience with an amusing reading about the trials and tribulations for people who were born before 1940 have to contend with in the modern world.

Taunton Ladies Chorus at Rockwell Green

October 14, 2011

Taunton Ladies Chorus entertained members of the Rockwell Green Over 60s Club on 13th October 2011. As usual the audience participated when required with vigour – they really are a delightful audience.

The ladies of the Chorus were ably led by Karen conducting, Sarah accompanying us on our new keyboard and Wendy who acted as our compere.   Daphne took over the keyboard for ‘The Lord’s my Shepherd’, thank you for that. This was the first time that we have had this set up and it seemed to work most impressibly.

We were regaled by an original poem from Gloria about the tribulations of time spent in the doctor’s waiting room and Ann entertained us with a poem and a list of things highlighting how so much has changed for those born before 1940.  Sarah entertained us with her rendition of Victoria Wood’s ‘Freda & Barry’ - very amusing.

Taunton Ladies Chorus at The Brambles

October 12, 2011

Taunton Ladies Chorus made a first time visit to The Brambles on 28th September 2011. We were made most welcome and were even invited to share in the residents tea party. The cakes were delicious – calorie counting out of the window that afternoon!

The residents joined in with vigour and accompanied us with shaking and rattling instruments supplied by Karen and seemed t0 thoroughly enjoy the experience.

Taunton Ladies Chorus have moved

September 16, 2011

Tuesday evening 13th September saw Taunton Ladies Chorus in their new ‘home’. We are now meeting in the Annexe at Monkton Heathfield Village Hall.  The new venue is very pleasing and we hope to attract new members from the local villages.

It was lovely to be back and singing again after our summmer break.

Taunton Ladies Chorus at Albermarle Centre

July 12, 2011

Taunton Ladies Chorus were delighted to sing for, and along with, The Stroke Club at the Albermarle Centre in Taunton today Tuesday 12th July. We started off with our signature tune ’Sing’ and finished with the rousing ‘This Little Light’.  For a change two poems were recited today, both of which were well received – thank you Ann and Wendy.  The whole concert was fronted by Wendy who did a wonderful job introducing all the various songs and a good time was had by all. The only downside was that Kath, one of our stalwarts, was poorly which necessitated calling out medical aid, fortunately  she was pronounced fit so all was well that ended well! The cup of tea was most gratefully received at the conclusion of this mostly enjoyable afternoon.

Taunton Ladies Chorus at another Wedding

June 22, 2011

We were asked to sing at the wedding of Cherie and Ian at Halcon Baptist Church in Taunton on Saturday 21st May. The weather was kind and the lovely service was enjoyed by all. The ladies sang a few numbers whilst waiting for the bride to arrive and when we had finished the youngest guest (Aleesha aged 2) piped up with “more Singing”, praise indeed!

The congregation joined in the hymns with great gusto. When the candle was lit we sang ‘This Little Light’ Light’ which proved to be a popular choice. During the signing of the register we sang ‘Annie’s Song’ accompanied  by Helen on the flute. Then we all enjoyed a few duets from Helen together with Hilary on piano.

A successful afternoon’s singing for which we received much favourable feedback.                                                                                                                                            The bride and groom were kind enough to invite the Ladies to join them in a glass of bubbly and canapés after the service. It would have been rude to refuse!                                                             We would all like to wish Cherie and Ian much happiness in their future together

Taunton Ladies Chorus at the Manor

April 26, 2011

A most enjoyable afternoon was spent with the residents of the Manor Care Home at Bishops Hull on Thursday 14th April – sorry this update has taken so long, I have been having problems logging on!

One of the members of the lively audience was a former choral singer who was most interested in all the songs. Another lady in the audience sang with us all through ‘Sloop John B’. Wendy and Hilary delighted us yet again with their rendition of the Everly Brothers’ “Let it be me” and there was also another poem by Pam Ayres recited by one of the Chorus.

The afternoon was a huge success. A testament to that was the fact that the morning following I had a phone call asking us back.

Taunton Ladies Chorus join professional singers

March 21, 2011

Taunton Ladies Chorus felt privileged to sing at the same venue as talented professional singers Caroline Childe and Cameron Rolls.

The occasion was a fund-raising evening in support of the Multiple Sclerosis Society held in the church at West Monkton, which proved to be a most enjoyable and successful evening. We were captivated by duets from those most skillful singers, Soprano Caroline Childe and Tenor Cameron Rolls, it is an evening that I for one will remember for a long time.

After their first items, Hilary, our conductor, introduced the Chorus by saying ‘and now for something completely different’ which we proved to be but even so very well received.

Thanks must go to Shaun Rolls who was ably assisted by his wife Issy in the organisation of this evening of songs.

Taunton Ladies Chorus sing at Creech

March 14, 2011

We were given our usual warm welcome at Creech St. Michael Village Hall, it is always a pleasure to entertain this group of people who are always most receptive to our singing. We opened with our usual signature tune and followed with a variety of  items including poetry, a duet from Hilary and Wendy and a solo from Gloria all of which were well received.
